The story of the Rufus Stone dates back nearly 1,000 years, to medieval England. It is believed that King William II, known as Rufus, was killed by a stray arrow shot by Sir Walter Tyrrell, an ancestor of the Tyrrell family. Today, the site of this famous incident is marked by the Rufus Stone. Since 1997, the finest non-Hunter red wines of Tyrrell have been named in honor of the historic association of Tyrrell with the Rufus Stone. The conditions of the Rufus Stone Heathcote Shiraz harvest were nearly perfect, with warm, dry days followed by cool nights, allowing the fruit to achieve the ripe, full flavors of modern Australian Shiraz while maintaining the mineral freshness
